“Above and Under the Surface” Art Show and Discussion
The work of artist Rea Nurmi, a native of Finland, will be displayed in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church March 6 through 29. An opening reception for the show will be held 5 – 7 PM on Friday, March 6. Surrounded by her work, the artist will also speak at the Beach Drive Forum on Wednesday, March 11.
Nurmi, who works in pastel and pastel combined with acrylic, has created large murals of nature scenes in medical facilities internationally. At the Forum, she will describe her inspiration for her flowing underwater scenes as well as her “Healing Walls” which provide color and light to places they are most needed. Locally, she teaches in Eckerd College's Olli (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) program.
Chapel doors will open for the Beach Drive Forum on Wednesday, March 11 at 5:30 PM. Nurmi’s presentation will begin at 6 PM. Park at the church’s Beach Drive entrance and on nearby streets.
